![]() Ill be happy to answer any questions I can. How do I bleed the air out exactly and how long should it take? Check the fans again, if they are off, your system is working as it should. Shut the engine off, then reconnect the plug. If they are working properly, then the computer is controlling the fans, and they are working. Where exactly do I locate this nipple and what does it look like? Once removed, start the engine, hop out, and see what the fans are up to. The good news is that the car isn't over heating for now but the low coolant light is still on! I think this may be because of the air in the lines. I kept doing this until the low coolant light went out (although it came back on 2 minutes later when I restarted the car). I did this for a while and I could see the engine "drinking" the coolant for a while and then I'd refill. He even said to let it bubble and run out a bit when it gets hot. An airplane mechanic here told me to leave the cap off and let the car idle and to keep filling the coolant when it got lower. I can't locate the thermostat casing even with all my google fu and I can't locate this nipple he's telling me about. He said that there's a nipple by the thermostat housing that will allow me to bleed the air out. I called my mechanic and he told me that there was likely air in the lines where the coolant should be. I filled it with a whole gallon bottle of coolant and about a gallon of water and the light was still on and it was still over heating! I brought it with me to work this morning to try and look at it. ![]() So guess what I didn't do?įast forward to this saturday and it's over heating so I drove it home. The mechanic told me my thermostat was shot and he replaced it and warned me to keep a close eye on the coolant level. I just had the thermostat replaced about 3 months ago because it was over heating. So My 2003 Chevy Malibu v6 gm 3100 started over heating 2 days ago and was giving me a low coolant light.
